I think for the first time in my 23 years of existence I have seen a shocking display of headline news in the US papers this morning. It wasn't a bombing in a country, a riot, a protest, a tragic plane crash or anything else you could think of. This was something citizens of the US aren't quite used to. What is it you ask? Well it was none other than the recent victory of the United States men's national football (soccer) team over Spain in the Confederation's Cup. This wasn't a small printing that barely mentions the game. Oh no. This thing took up almost the whole page and had a pretty big picture. I had to sit and ponder for a second and ask myself if I magically teleported myself to Europe. But no, this was the US National team, and for the first time in a while I was proud.
Was this what needed to be done for football (pardon my slang) in the United States? Was this the highest point that this wonderful sport has reached in this country? After all, this was Spain mind you, the number one team in the world who's been on a record winning streak. Not only did we prove that our boys could play with the men, finally, but we proved that football is slowly growing in popularity in this country. If the US can prove that this victory wasn't just a fluke and keep on winning against top teams, say in the 2010 World Cup, then maybe, just maybe, football will grow a little bit more and would be appreciated by non-fans of the game.
P.S. David Beckham is a total wanker and proved that he's all for the money instead of giving two shits about the sport in this country by going to AC Milan on a loan. If it weren't for his wife's love of LA, he wouldn't have even thought about playing for an MLS team. But that's just my opinion.

Tim Burton Follows the White Rabbit

I just happened to stumble upon the new images of Tim Burton's upcoming "Alice In Wonderland" and boy was I grinning the big grin. Just take a look at Johnny Depp's transformation as the Mad Hatter. I mean, wow! This is exactly how the Mad Hatter should look like. It makes one wonder how Johnny Depp is going to act this one out. What strange and dark antics are we going to see? "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" anyone? Of course they are two different films and two different characters, but this is the infamous Tim Burton/Johnny Depp team we're talking about here. Tim Burton's going to have such fun with making this film because of all the strange and wonderful locations and characters. And honestly, I think Tim Burton can only make a film like this. I mean if "Beauty and the Beast" were to be made into a film, I would immediately hire Tim Burton as the director. And who wouldn't want to see Tim Burton's "Beauty and the Beast"? I would camp out the day before the release eagerly waiting for those doors to open... But that's just me.

Deep Into the Depths of Writers Block... A Writer's Worst Nightmare
It's been quite a while since the last time I wrote on my blog. Lazy? Perhaps. Unmotivated? Quite possible. This brings me to today's topic, writer's block. This word can make any writer cringe, and I know a lot of writers suffer from it time and time again. Having finished my first feature length screenplay not too long ago, I certainly know how writer's block can feel, and it's not too pretty. After all, it did take me about two years, if not more, to finally finish an 89 page script. Of course, I had to actually get motivated to sit down and write at least a word or two each time, but once I was there I did stare at my screen for a while just thinking of what or how to write something.
I am going through a similar situation right now as I am in development of my new feature length screenplay. Just writing down the step outline is becoming a grueling process. What should happen to my character next? Does he meet a certain character that is out of the ordinary? Does the next scene flow with the previous? I am about half way done with the outlining process, but there is always that bump in the road somewhere down the line where you get stuck. Even though you have a strong vision in your head about how you want the script to flesh out, you are clueless as to what the next scene should be.
I give a tremendous amount of credit to every writer out there. Whether you are an author of a book, a journalist, screenwriter, TV writer, magazine writer, song writer, whatever, it is very very tough to sit down and write something, especially if you are suffering from writer's block. We all stare at the blinking cursor of our word documents searching for that one word that becomes two, three, etc. until you form one full sentence. Then you look at your clock and realize that three hours have passed...
