Ladies and Gentlemen... Grunge Music is Back

If you grew up in the 90's, then you certainly know, or heard of grunge rock. People were blasting sweet tunes of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, or any other band that came about from Seattle during that time. These bands made a statement and gave alternative rock a whole new name. The fans couldn't help but want more and were influenced by these musicians. I constantly remember hearing grunge music being played on the radio and on MTV (that was when the channel actually used to be good). Those were some sweet times.

Nowadays, it is very rare to hear a band with the elements of grunge incorporated in their style. Yes, Pearl Jam is still around (thank God), but other than them, grunge has been dead for quite some time. Well, that is, until now. Recently I read an article that stated that Alice in Chains were going to release a new album. Yes, THE Alice in Chains. One of the biggest grunge rockers of the 90's. I thought to myself... Is this true. I checked my calendar for the year, and it was 2009. Okay, so I hadn't found some kind of a portal or machine that took me back in time. Then, I saw their new video. After a few pinches to my skin, I had indeed, confirmed that this was reality and not a figment of my imagination.

But what about Layne Staley's sad death in 2002, and his iconic voice that he brought to the band? What is to become of that? Well, after seeing that video and hearing the new Alice in Chains, I can assure you that the new replacement, William DuVall, is a perfect fit to their style of sound. Of course, you can never replace anyone like Layne Staley, and God rest his soul, but there were times when I thought that I was listening to Alice in Chains from 14 years ago.

Can Alice in Chains live up to their hype and resurrect themselves after 14 long years of absence? Only time will tell, and I certainly cannot wait until their new album releases on September 29th. From the one new song that I heard, I could tell that this album is going to give me goosebumps (the good kind), and diehard fans will embrace the comeback.

Oh, and by the way, Pearl Jam will be releasing their new album on September 22nd. If you're good in math, that's one week before Alice in Chains. I guess it would be safe to say that grunge is back. I'm going to be in musical heaven come September.
