The balls will be inflated with air. The pitch, green and bright, will be cut and watered. The nets will be clinching ever so tightly to the posts. The supporters with nothing but pure passion running through their veins will march in. Chanting. Dancing. Laughing. The players will get ready, their eyes closed. Praying. Concentrating. Nervous. They will line up and take their positions as they valiantly make their way to the center of the pitch. The supporters will cheer them on. The players will embrace their loving crowd. The national anthems will be played and sung along to by fellow countrymen. The players will take their positions on the field, reciting one last prayer amongst themselves. The whistle will be blown, and it will take ninety minutes to decide the outcome of the match.
Billions will come together every four years, putting their differences aside, joining hands and supporting their nation. Celebrating. It’s going to be one glorious road. One triumphant battle. Will the underdogs stand strong and fight hard, or will they be crushed by the big favorites? The ball is round, and anything is possible.
This is football. This is my sport. This is your sport. This is the world’s sport. This is FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
